I’m Angel Doran (AN-jel DOR-an), a geology undergraduate and web designer working at the intersection of science, structure, and communication. My academic focus is in Earth sciences, with particular interests in mineralogy, geochemistry, and the translation of complex information into clear visual and written forms. Alongside my academic work, I design systems, graphics, and websites that prioritize clarity, accuracy, and long-term usability.
What I work on
My work generally falls into a few overlapping areas:
-
Geology and Earth science research, with emphasis on mineralogy, geochemistry, and physical properties of materials
-
Scientific communication and visualization, including figures, posters, presentations, and written explanations
-
Design and technical systems, such as websites, documentation frameworks, and structured visual identities
-
Independent and collaborative projects that sit between research, design, and education
Much of what I do involves working with dense, technical, or easily misrepresented information and presenting it in a way that is precise without being overwhelming.
How I work
I tend to favor systems that are:
-
Structured rather than flashy
-
Documented rather than improvised
-
Designed to scale and adapt rather than impress once and fail later
I care about accuracy, consistency, and decisions that make future work easier rather than more complicated over time.
Where science and design meet
For me, design is not decoration applied after the thinking is done. It is part of the thinking. The way information is structured, labeled, and presented affects how it is understood, questioned, and used. In scientific contexts, especially, clarity is not an aesthetic preference but a methodological responsibility.
That perspective carries through all of my work, whether I am building a website, preparing a research poster, or organizing data for analysis. If something looks clean, it should also be correct.
About this site
This site serves as a home for my academic work, research projects, writing, and design experiments. It reflects my ongoing interests and evolving work, rather than a finished or static portfolio. Client-facing design work lives separately under Angel Network & Design.
I’m open to thoughtful collaboration, research conversations, and projects where clarity actually matters.
